how FSi builds a culture of belonging

Embracing differences, uniting all

At FSi Strategies, we know that a company’s success is driven by its culture, and that’s why we strive to create a culture of belonging. We’ve built our culture around four core pillars, Innovation, Learning, Customer Connected, and Inclusion.

Diversity and inclusion goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to community engagement. We can proudly say we have a staff that represents the diversity of our community.

Diversity and inclusion at FSi means listening and empowering all employees, from our Service Desk to our leadership team, to make sure their voices are heard, understood, and respected. We know that diversity prepares us to solve complex problems. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate based on anyone’s identity, but we take it further, ensuring that people don’t just feel welcomed at FSi—they feel like they belong.

Our policy of all employees becoming Microsoft Certified helps ensure that everyone at FSi is able to pursue professional development opportunities and grow their skills. Learning is another one of our core cultural pillars. We know that investing in professional development for our employees benefits our team and our clients. It helps FSi grow and thrive by utilizing the unique skills and talents of everyone on our team, and it enables our employees grow by giving them skills and experience that they will carry with them wherever they go.

Beyond the workplace, FSi strives to have a meaningful impact on our community, and part of how we do that is by partnering with other organizations in the community that are committed to a culture of learning and inclusion like Generation Hope.

To ensure all student parents have the opportunities to succeed and experience economic mobility, Generation Hope engages with education and policy partners in the Washington, DC, area to drive systemic change and provides direct support to teen parents in college as well as their children through holistic, two-generation programming. Fewer than 2% of teen mothers earn a college degree before age 30, but Generation Hope’s Scholars’ graduation rate is on par with the national average for ALL college students, is almost double the rate of low-income students, and is almost eight times the rate of single mothers nationwide. Among their alumni, 90% report an income above the federal poverty line within six months of graduation.

Career readiness represents one key area of support provided by the organization. Although student parents have more work experience and earn higher grades than their non-parenting, college-going peers, over one-third of Generation Hope respondents in their 2020 Student Parent Report found the career opportunities through their respective campuses to be inaccessible for them and their families. In response to an inequitable internship landscape, Generation Hope has identified access to internships as a key focal point in their career development services.

Generation Hope and FSi Strategies are proud partners, and FSi is currently hosting two interns from the organization. Keidy Sanchez-Diaz and Shawn Mitchell are interning with the FSi Service Desk. Keidy, a recent graduate of Mount St. Mary’s University, hopes to pursue a career in IT with a focus on analytics and cloud computing. Shawn is currently attending Marymount University, and after graduation next year, he plans on pursuing a career in cybersecurity.

Working with interns like Keidy and Shawn allows FSi to help young professionals grow their skills and progress their careers in a meaningful way. Both have already made an impact at FSi through their work with our Service Desk, and we’re excited to have them work with us through the summer!

Diversity and inclusion are more than just buzzwords at FSi Strategies. Our D&I initiatives are a core part of who we are as a company and what drives our success. Engaging with our community is a central to what we do, and it helps us connect, not just with our clients but with our neighbors.
